Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

Mostly Quiet Day Around Camp

Today's breakfast menu item came from the Coleman camping app - "Eggs in a Nest". In our family, we call them "Bull's Eyes". You cut a hole in the center of the bread and then break the egg in the hole and fry it. Some people only like their eggs scrambled so I tried to make two separate meals basically. I used the griddle on the BBQ for the bull's eyes and had the eggs in a frying pan in the trailer. Brock helped me with the scrambled and I still burned a couple of the bull's eyes. It was disappointing. What was fun though was that we decided to scramble up a special gift that the Schoolcrafts had presented to our family when we were concluding our visit with them in Minneapolis. We decided this morning was the perfect occasion to include some canned SPAM in our scrambled eggs! It actually wasn't bad and it was fun (& funny) to get to share it with them.

About mid-morning, Brock and Keith took Keith's car and headed in to Cedar Rapids to visit a leasing company that both of their companies are considering doing business with. They enjoyed it because they saw a lot of great examples in how they run their company and have team and individual goals and everyone in their company sees how they're doing.

Anne was still not feeling well so I cleaned up the breakfast mess and got my shower. The kids had already cycled through the bathroom and were all playing together, mostly playing Minecraft together on their different devices.
Here the kids are watching some of Brighton's videos.
I took our foldable bike and went for a little ride down to a station that had maps of the park. It turns out that it is actually a really big place. There were a couple trails that it might've been fun to check out, but we couldn't seem to get motivated and so we just hung around and relaxed and enjoyed quiet companionship. I looked at a few houses on craigslist in Bend and killed time browsing Facebook. I took another short bike ride to see if there was easy access to the trail from any of the three loops of the Modern Campground, but there wasn't any very close.

We ate a quick and easy lunch of chicken nuggets and tator tots along with cucumbers and carrots.

When Brock and Keith got back, we heard about their trip and the Cuban restaurant they'd checked out on the way back.

Brock and I then decided to load up the two older kids and head into Iowa City which was about 20 minutes drive away to go to the nearest Laundromat. We ended up driving twice around the mall parking lot where the laundry was supposed to be and almost giving up before driving across to another building and peeking around its end and seeing the Laundromat tucked in there. We got our laundry started and walked across the parking lot to McDonald's for snack size McFlurries as a reward for having to do laundry. Brock was able to make a connection with our new tenants for our house in Bend via a phone call. It was good as they were moving in and it was the first time we'd talked to them. They had some questions too so it was nice to touch base.

Once the laundry was done, we headed back to camp where Keith and Anne had a fire going and the coals were perfect for another camping favorite - roasted hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls. Fun dinner. The execution wasn't perfect; it was alittle difficult to get the hot dog hot without burning the dough or eating going dough in the center, but everyone ate some form of it. We enjoyed sitting around the fire for awhile and then got to bed.
