Today, we were just focusing on our school work and Brock was conducting a lunch meeting over the internet when there was a huge boom that rattled the windows and shook the trailer. A few minutes later there was a second one. Turns out we are close to an air force base and a missile testing range.
On Wednesday last week, while the kids and I were enjoying the outside common area at the park and doing school, there was a couple of really startling sonic booms. The man from the park office came out to put our minds at ease. He walked out and said, "All right, who did that?" We all laughed.
Tonight I remembered that at the White Sands National Monument visitor center, I heard a ranger say that the dunes road would be closed on Monday (today) due to a missile test. SO, today's booms weren't sonic booms after all. I think they were the missile test! How exciting!
Evidentally the high winds that were in the Pacific Northwest a couple of days ago are moving through our area tonight. We're thankful that we don't drive anywhere with the trailer for the next couple of days. There is a high wind warning for our area tonight including blowing dust. There is a nasty brown haze in the sky. There is a winter storm warning for the northern part of the state of New Mexico. Can't imagine that one will affect us because it was close to 80 degrees again today.
Welcome to our Adventure...
We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
