Sunny again this morning. I set the alarm so I could try a run in a little cooler of temperatures. The black thing and I ran across the draw bridge and along the road by the beach and it felt ALOT better at 70 degrees with a slight wind than the 80 something that made me want to pass out. It was a good run and I beat a pace record I was shooting for so it felt like a good accomplishment. Heidi seemed to enjoy it to but looked pretty worn out when we got back. Traffic was pretty light being somewhat early on a Sunday.
We decided that we would goto a near by church - Cortez Road Baptist Church. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by many different people that really made us feel welcome. It looks like attendance runs about 60 people. The pastor had been a pastor for over 60 years! He had a very heart felt message about the Sandy Hook murders and the state we are in as a nation. We are praying for the families affected by this atrocity. Tough to imagine one of our little guys being taken from us in such a horrific way.
Spencer and Ben did really well at the church service so we decided to take advantage of the kids eat free deal at Steak and Shake. Seemed like such a contrast compared to the heavy topic of the morning but it was good to spend time together and enjoy a good (although not overly healthy) meal. We are blessed to be able to spend alot of time together as a family on this trip and while tempers sometimes flare we also see the growth in the kids and them becoming what God has planned for them. The events this week really reinforce the importance of spending this time together and training the kids in God's word and how it relates to their lives.
I had wanted to get some maintenance items done on the Yukon before our next move so we took it to an oil change place, then to the car wash and when we got back to the trailer we waxed it so it is all nice and shiny and hopefully better protected from this Florida sun. I also picked up a new fuel filter yesterday so I crawled underneath and got that all replaced. I was looking and smelling like quite the shade tree mechanic by the end of the day!
Stacey and I tried to plan out where we might be spending Christmas. It is a little weird thinking about the holidays that would normally be spent with family but being instead at a campground somewhere in Florida. I think we decided neither of us is overly excited about seeing the Everglades so we will be heading north to start our westward trek to Texas over the next month or two. We are still not sure where we will be on Christmas but hoping we can find someway to involve the kids in helping others as a family tradition.
The kids pretty much just spent time in the trailer this afternoon. Brighton and Brynna helped us wax the Yukon. Brighton is working on a 3D game using a tool he found and Brynna is playing with the little boys. Another great day on our trip around the US!
Welcome to our Adventure...
We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
