Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

Touring the Fort

This morning we used the campground showers and they felt great. There was nice hot water really fast and excellent pressure. Since we still needed to register at the campground office, I sorted the laundry and put in a couple loads. The laundry room was ok. There were four washers and dryers. A little stinky. There's no where to get quarters.  I got two loads of laundry going and drove down to the office only to find a little sign saying the office was closed for lunch. I came back to the trailer and got Spencer to take him with me to babysit the laundry and work on some schoolwork together. Once the clothes were drying, we headed again to the office and finally were able to register. We'd already paid so it was just a matter of picking up our little dash card and the code for the after hours gate. When Spence and I finally finished up at the laundry room and headed back to the trailer, Bryn met me as I got out of the car and asked if I saw the note they left asking us to register. She said they even told Sky to go in and tell "Daddy" that he needs to go register. What?! They didn't make it easy to get it done.

Because we are trying to consolidate our trips back over the bridge into town, we are in "use up everything in the pantry mode" before we go shopping tomorrow. We've done pretty well, the fridge and freezer are the emptiest we've seen so far and tonight we had a meal that shall not be named which actually everyone ate. It wasn't the healthiest, but did contain meat and potatoes.

The highlight of today was a break around 2 o'clock when we all drove about a mile down the campground road to tour the actual fort, Fort Pickens.

It was built with slave labor, completed in 1834, to protect our country from foreign threats, but ironically the only time it saw action was during the Civil War.
