Today was a five hour drive day so we got started fairly early, before 10 am. All went pretty well. Brock had a couple of meetings that he had intended to participate in, but it turned out that we weren't near any place to pull off at both the appointment times so he ended up having to skip them.
While still in Ohio, we stopped at a Flying J for gas. Flying J's usually work out pretty well for us because they usually have an RV island, but this particular one was an exception. It did have an RV island, but the RV and car part of the gas station was completely separated from the truck section and we accidentally pulled into the truck section because you had to execute a U-turn to get into the car and RV driveway. There was only diesel available in the truck side and we couldn't see any exit from the truck side either so we ended up having to turn around among all the semis parked there and then we went out the Do Not Enter driveway to get back out on the road and turn into the car and RV driveway. It felt pretty frustrating, but we were able to get to the RV pump finally and get filled up and back out onto the road.
It was HOT. A couple of hours after stopping for gas, it was time to stop for lunch so we pulled into a rest stop and parked in a spot where we were able to put out our main slide to make room for all of us to eat lunch. It is time to do grocery shopping again so we had to get a little creative with the lunch, but we all got some food. Brock checked in on a couple of work items while we were there, but we were all pretty anxious to get back on the road and into the air conditioned car. It was so hot and moist that it made me feel sort of sick. Thank the Lord for air conditioning.
Traffic wasn't too heavy and it really wasn't too eventful of a drive. Brock did great despite not feeling 100 percent due to some cold symptoms.
We arrived at our new RV park just across the Indiana border just before 4 pm. We got setup and Brock started his work day. :o( Five hour drives on work days are not ideal. Once inside the trailer we all just sort of sprawled out for a little bit. Setting up in our site out in the hot sun had made us all drenched in sweat and it took a little while to recover. Eventually, the kids and I piled back into the car to head to the grocery store to pick up some meal ingredients for the next few days.
We rewarded ourselves with some fruit popsicles in the parking lot when we finished the shopping and then we drove back to the campground. I made dinner while the kids entertained themselves with electronics and Brock worked away.
We ate and got to see another gorgeous sunset before bed.
The sun sets over the corn field at the rear of our trailer. |
