We awoke to a chorus of coughing here in the trailer. It seems to be that last burst of the virus where everything is breaking up, but all five of us affected are feeling much better. We decided against attending a separate church service with how disruptive we might be there this morning. We ate a pancake breakfast. We downloaded another podcast in Pastor Haas' series called Stumped and had our own little service in the trailer.
We all needed showers this morning so we cycled through the bathroom and Brock left a message for Joe, his HTG friend, to call us back to arrange a time to get together this afternoon. We each had a little quiet time and Brock and I worked on our itinerary for the remainder of our trip. It was very interesting when I saw him put "Bend" on our calendar. I am definitely excited to get home and REALLY look forward to seeing our family and friends, but a teensy part of me feels a little sad that the trip will be over. I'm not positive of all I hoped we would accomplish through this trip, but I don't feel like we've achieved it yet. I know that we are all pretty excited about living with a little more living space some time soon.
Joe called back and it was agreed that we would meet he and his wife, Rhonda, at their house at 3 pm. It would only take us about 20 minutes to drive there from the campground.
They have a beautiful home set back from the road a little and screened with woods. It was a really nice setting, especially for being pretty close to city conveniences. We all sipped some iced tea and lemonade and got to know each other a little better. Joe gave us the tour of his motorcycles which was very fun. He keeps them (4 complete plus one mini in process) immaculately clean and has customized them with various add ons. He is very knowledgeable about bikes and has taken them all completely apart and put them together again it seems. I think Brock was especially interested in hearing more about this particular "hobby" of Joe's. One bike in particular is the kind that Brock would like to have some day.
Spencer and Skylar had a blast playing with Joe and Rhonda's "kids", two fluffy white dogs, a boy and a girl, bichon mixes. They had great personalities and seemed to enjoy the attention, at least at first. There came a point when I think they were done and Rhonda showed them to their little "dens" since we'd be leaving soon to go out to eat anyways and the male in particular seemed to need a rest from all the boys' activity.
We decided on Italian food and we followed Joe and Rhonda's car to a restaurant called Papa Bear's. It was a great dinner.
After eating, we decided to see what movies were playing at the nearby theater. Joe was hoping to watch the new Superman movie, but with a PG-13 rating, we couldn't all see that one, so we decided to see Despicable Me 2 as it was starting within ten minutes and all our family had wanted to see it. I don't think the Aiello's would've ever chosen to see that one, but they were great sports and went along with it. It turned out that the showtime we'd picked was a 3D showing. While half our family hit the restrooms, I gave a 2 minute synopsis of the first movie so that Joe and Rhonda would have a little background information to better understand the context of the movie.
I normally don't like 3D, but this one didn't make me feel sick so maybe they are getting a little better. The movie was good. Funny. Skylar, we discovered, doesn't really like 3D either and he didn't wear his glasses for most of the movie. I think he was just nervous about something scary popping out at him. He did like some of the gratuitous 3D effects that they threw in at the end of the movie during the credits so it was fun to watch him.
After the movie, we said goodnight to Joe and Rhonda and headed back to the trailer.
Brock will work at Joe's office tomorrow and get the tour of their operations as well. First day back to work for Brock after two weeks off...
Welcome to our Adventure...
We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
