Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

Git 'Er Done Day

Spence and Sky and I got up and took Brock in to Joe's office so that he could have a productive first day back from vacation and we could have the car to get a lot of things checked off our list too.

On the way back to the trailer, we found a post office so we could pick up some mailing supplies. Since we've finished our school work, we get to lighten the trailer's load by probably 30 lbs. by sending some books to my sister, Carly's house for storage until we get back. I'm sure our gas mileage will skyrocket now. ;o) Also, my niece Ava's birthday is this week and we had a few trinkets to send for her.

When we got back to the trailer, Brighton and Brynna had gotten themselves ready, eaten breakfast and done their chores for the day. Great job, guys!

I then got my shower out of the way and we had a leftover lunch. We checked out the park's laundry facilities and decided to get our massive mounds done elsewhere. The machines didn't inspire too much confidence and they were oddly matched as far as number of washers to dryers. That bugs me and since I wanted to get sheets done too, we headed to a big Laundromat so we could do all six loads at once.

The Laundromat wasn't air-conditioned so it was really hot and humid in there, but the kids were happy because there was fast, free wifi. We have free wifi available at the campground too, but only if you go up to the rec room by the office and it isn't consistently useable. I was happy with the Laundromat because the prices weren't bad, there were change machines available, and there was an abundance of open machines. There was an extractor available which I'd never used before, but it's basically a big centrifuge which spins REALLY fast for 4 minutes to remove excess water from clothes so they spend less time in the dryer. It only cost 25 cents and actually seemed to work pretty well to cut down drying time.

When we finished up at the Laundromat, I decided to treat us all to frozen fruit drinks from McDonald's before we continued on our way. It was about 94 degrees outside so those drinks were very refreshing.

I was proud of myself for re-finding the Post Office that I'd visited that morning by myself, so that I could actually get the boxes sent off. We'd been wanting to get rid of those books for the last few weeks so that felt good.

From there, I texted Brock to check in with him and see how he was doing. He's been feeling the cold symptoms a little more, but the Airborne seems to be keeping it in check and it's not getting to be full-blown. He had mentioned in the morning that he might possibly want to be picked up earlier rather than later if he was feeling too infectious. He texted back that he was doing well and we should go ahead and do our last item on our list.

I had picked up a new pair of shoes for Sky that he had tried on at the store, but when we got them back to the trailer, the first time he tried to wear them, he said they hurt his toes. So, I needed to return them to Walmart and we needed a new 9V battery for the smoke detector plus a couple of other items. While there, Spencer decided on a craft project that he wanted to invest some time and energy in, so he spent some of his "experience" money from Grams and Gramps and bought some embroidery floss and an instruction booklet on how to make friendship bracelets. Sky picked up a few floss colors for himself so they could learn together.

We spent about 30 minutes at the Walmart, which is just across the street from Joe's office. We then texted Brock to let him know we were on our way and drove across to Joe's office.

Since it was scorching outside, we all piled into the reception area. Their office is very secure due to the type of contracts they have and so the receptionist went back to tell Brock we were there while we waited in the air-conditioning, which was much appreciated. Brock came out shortly and we all piled back in the car and headed in the direction of the trailer.

It was nearly 6 pm when we got back. Brock had asked me to get our last two years' tax returns together so that he could send them in to a mortgage banker and we can figure out what, if anything, we can qualify for in a loan. This will help us in making our decisions about what to do when we get back to Bend. We aren't positive yet if we will rent or buy, but if we can buy that would be our preference so we can build our own equity. After a little electronic digging, I couldn't seem to find our copy of this year's taxes and so Brock just emailed our CPA to see if he could send a copy to us.

Our former home back in Bend is going through transition too as our renter gave notice as of August 1st. We decided to use the same property management company again to find new renters and we heard on Friday that they have a pending application so that is good news. It is strange to be far away and not have a part in the process, but we are trying to stay in good communication and are hopeful that this new family will be qualified and will love the house.

I spent a good hour and a half getting our budget all up to date. It felt great to get all the mess of receipts cleaned out of my purse. We then ate a quick pizza dinner and it was time for the kids to be in bed.

I worked on yesterday's blog and Brock turned in early still trying to fight off this bug.
