Brock got up early and took the Yukon back to the brake shop. Turns out they put in the wrong shocks so our autoride system does not work. They also did not adjust the parking brake so the pedal goes to the floor. When Brock talked to them about it, they conceded that they'd made a mistake. Evidently they don't see too many three-quarter tons and we know they ARE fairly rare. They said they needed to special order the correct shocks. Brock, of course, had already done the research and knew what he could get the correct parts for online. The price that the shop quoted was close to double the price that Brock had seen. When he pointed it out to them, the shop told him their cost. Brock offered to pay their cost, which was still more than he could order them for. Despite all of Brock's time they wasted, the brake shop wouldn't give up their $300 markup to order the special parts, so Brock decided to go ahead and order the shocks himself and have them delivered to the shop via next day delivery. The online parts store confirmed that the shocks were in stock and could go out the same day. The brake shop will credit us for the incorrect parts they installed.
The kids and I spent the whole day around the campground again. We got today's school work done plus a little extra since the plan is to take tomorrow off so we can go into the city and explore the Alamo and the River Walk in the morning. Then the brake store will call when the parts got there. We would all take the Yukon in and it would only take "about a half hour" to install the correct parts. We took Heidi out for several walks. We did our cleaning chores.
I did a little googling Austin and Corpus Christi to see if I would be really disappointed if we didn't visit them. We are trying to figure out where to go next. It is still Spring Break (reportedly March 8-25th with different districts staggering) so I'm pretty sure we don't want to head toward the coast. I also looked at Bandera which is where we are thinking we'll head so that we can possibly do a family trail ride. Bandera calls itself the cowboy capital of the world so we are thinking we'll see some of what people typically think of when they hear Texas.
Welcome to our Adventure...
We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
