The day started out wildly windy. I think even more windy than the day we arrived here. The trailer was whistling and rocking with the gusts. It was with a little sadness that we prepared to leave our campspot at Dellanera RV Park. We really enjoyed this prime oceanfront view. When we actually did pull out around 10:30, the wind pushed us around a bit on the road. We were thankful that we bought the Reese anti-sway system that we did, because it really helped to hold us in line. We were also thankful that we were only moving a small distance today, just slightly closer to Houston in a little town called Dickinson.
As we came into town, we started to feel a little uneasy because we couldn't really tell if the new campspot was going to be in the greatest neighborhood. When we actually arrived at Palms RV Park, I was fairly disappointed. The park is very tight and completely full, as in we got the last spot which is right at the front of the park on a fairly busy road. There is a white fence that provides a visual barrier and then the park's driveway/parking lot between our trailer and the road so that provides a little bit of a buffer. The man in the office was very nice and he did allow us to check in a little early because Brock had a meeting to "attend" at 11:30. (I had called ahead for permission since normal check in is noon.) The site was actually a little hard to get into because of having to get around the fence and other resident's vehicles and trailers. There is grass in the site and two paved strips where you are supposed to put the trailer's tires, but we had to park with the passenger side in the grass so that there would be room for our slides on the other side because of the utilities locations. With how long it took us to jockey into position, Brock ended up missing his meeting. :o(
Once we were all set up, we ate lunch and Brighton and Brynna and I worked on some school work. Spence decided yesterday that he was going to do extra school and so he had very little to work on today and had finished all his work before we left Dellanera. So, he had plenty of free time to play with Legos and draw this afternoon. He and Skylar played together some and separately some. I had hoped to go to the Houston Zoo this afternoon because they offer a free admission on the first Tuesday of the month from 2 pm to close and the weather turned out to be surprisingly nice. However, by the time we finished up our school work and I mapped it on google maps (it was a further drive than I thought), we wouldn't have gotten there until after 4 pm and then it closed at 6. Brock wouldn't have been able to go with us anyway so we just decided to skip it.
I had my shopping list and so Brighton and I headed out to find the Walmart closest while the other kids stayed at the trailer and played quietly while Brock worked. Brighton and I had a pretty good time together walking the aisles and choosing whatever items we wanted to put in the cart. We didn't strictly stick to the list (which I am ok with. ;o) It was nice to be able to spend a little one on one time.
After shopping, we came back to the trailer and put all the groceries away. It was so late that I had to amend my meal plan and just cook some frozen pizzas and as it was, the little boys still went to bed late.
Brock and Skylar did a couple of Sky's reading lessons while the pizzas were cooking. It is funny, but now that his "stories" in the book are getting a little longer, they keep doing a part 1 and a part 2. Skylar doesn't do to be continued, he would rather do two lessons in the book at a time. LOL As a result, he only has two more lessons in his book until he finishes it! We had told him before we left Bend that when he finished 100 Easy Lessons we would have a party. We hadn't been consistent about getting his lessons done regularly until recently and now we need to get a party planned tomorrow!
Tonight as we are getting ready for bed, I'm trying to pretend that its the ocean's waves pounding that I hear outside, instead of the cars roaring by at 50 miles an hour.
Welcome to our Adventure...
We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
