Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

Go south to go north

Wow. Guess we are really living the nomadic life now after this day.

We decided that instead of going to Stone Mountain, GA we would head south and spend a little beach time at Beaufort, SC. We had read about a nice state park there. Given that the park was only about a two hour drive, we did not get up as early as we normally would have and Stace made some nice cinnamon pancakes (I think due to her chicken and waffles the other day). They were good and we all got ready to go. Once the trailer was packed up, I decided that it was the best time to lubricate the bearings. Our trailer has a system that allows you to just hook up a grease gun to the hub and grease the bearings that way. Only catch is if you read the fine print it says to rotate the wheel while you are greasing the bearings so that it get distributed correctly. This of course means jacking up the trailer.

The whole experience was a first for us with this trailer. Better now than with a flat on the highway we figured but it still took us longer than expected to get the job done.

We rolled out of Charleston close to noon and made it to Beaufort about 2:30PM. I stopped in at the park office and she highlighted a few of the sites we could fit at and that were available. We started to drive around the park and quickly realized that "big rig friendly" was not an accurate term for this park. There were times that I came within a few inches of dinging a tree or running over a post. Needless to say I was not in a happy mood by the time we made the loops and I decided (too hastily) that we would go somewhere else.

We headed out to the freeway and stopped at a rest stop outside of Savannah to eat dinner and decide our next step. After throwing around all the possibilities we decided to bite the bullet and switch back to our original plan of Stone Mountain. Only issue was it was now close to 6PM and it was a 4.5 hour drive. Being close to Atlanta would put me in a position to possibly interview a candidate for our Anchorage office in person.

We hit the road as it started to get dark. About half way we amped up on caffeine and finished off the long drive about 10:30PM. Only problem was getting the trailer unhooked. The site is a pull through which for motorhomes is great but for a trailer it means dealing with some weird angles. With the hitch we have, if one of the load bars is off because you are at an angle it will refuse to come off properly. Of course this happened just as the down pour of rain started. We sure felt like we were the "just learning how to unhook" late night arrival family. Luckily the campground is really empty so there were not that many people to disturb.

We all finally rolled into bed about midnight being pretty exhausted and ready for some good sleep. The rain on the roof did not even bother us!
