Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

Getting blown around in Santa Fe

The wind was crazy strong last night. It pushed the trailer around pretty well - enough that I had to get up and close all the roof vents and bungee the sewer cap that kept bumping the pipe in the wind. Not alot of trees or hills in this park to block the wind from our trailer.

We decided to do family church this morning. Stacey led us this time and had a good discussion about forgiveness and loving each other which was pretty applicable to some of our family behavior this week. We decided to extend our stay instead of moving the trailer due to the high winds and how they push around the trailer. The plan for the day was to head to Santa Fe and explore the town there. Lou and Lyle live on the way so we called them and got directions to their house. We decided we would take Heidi with us today since she had to be alone for so long yesterday.

The park allowed us to extend our stay and even gave us the weekly rate discounting what we had already paid which helps with the housing budget. We drove north and found Lou and Lyle's place without incident. They have 5 chihuahuas each with a different personality and look. They greeted us and did well with the kids. We got a tour of the place and got to visit a bit more before having to head out. It was good to get to see them while we were here and after leaving their house the kids were already asking when we would see them again.

The high winds continued on the drive to Santa Fe and even pushed the Yukon around pretty well. When we arrived we drove through the main area of town and decided we had better get some food before exploring to keep the attitudes positive. We looked up reviews and found a place we thought sounded good. When we got there we found it would be a 30 minute wait to be seated. We decided although the food is supposed to be great in Sante Fe we would rather eat a little faster and less expensively. We felt we had a pretty great dinner last night of New Mexican food so it would be hard to top. We ended up at Kentucky Fried Chicken. We got the family meal and came to the sad realization that Spencer and Skylar did not know how to eat chicken with the bone still in it! We made it through none the less.

We drove to the visitor center and Stacey checked about parking and they said we could park in their lot while we explored. We headed out with Heidi and explored the old part of town. We saw a few churches that had some amazing architecture. On our way back to the car we saw a sign in an alley that said the oldest house in America was down the alley. Seemed like something we should probably see! It looked like it probably could be the oldest when we arrived. While we were taking pictures a long gust of wind blew down the alley for a good 20 seconds or so and blinded us with dust and dirt. It was really weird. Heidi did really well during the whole walk.

We were ready to get back into the car at this point. We hit a frozen yogurt shop on the way out of Santa Fe and then we had to hit Walmart once we were in Albuquerque  We called home to the McFarlane family and talked with Mom, Dad, Brett and Paul. It was nice to catch up with them. Now we are planning out the next stop in Amarillo where we will be heading Wednesday. They are forecasting even stronger winds so we will have to see how that drive goes!
