Welcome to our Adventure...

We packed up the kids, dog and the trailer and headed out for adventure, learning and helping others. During our adventure we will try to update this site as often as possible to keep everyone interested involved in our travels and to keep a journal for ourselves. The plan is to be working, schooling, helping and sharing on the road for a year.
Please feel free to post comments and questions! Thanks for following!

A Chicken Crossed the Road

Today was not bad given it was a Monday. We didn't have near as many of the Monday grumps as we often do during our school work and we were able to get our checklist done.

We used the campground laundry room to get our laundry done. There were four washers and four driers. The machines were only $1 a piece which I like, but...they were in pretty bad condition. I seriously wondered if the dryers were going to burst into flames. I needn't have worried. Two of the dryers didn't get hot enough for that to be a concern. LOL After two full one-hour cycles each for our towels and our jeans, not big loads, they were still very damp. I ended up shifting all five loads through the two dryers that did get hot, but one of those was missing a lint trap. One of the dryers had a drawer pull screwed on for a replacement for its broken handle. Two others had broken or makeshift handles as well. I think the next time I look on the available machines with as much trepidation as these, I will go ahead and find facilities elsewhere.

Brock had a good work day too. He was happy with the things he accomplished. It always feels good to be able to mark some things off the ol' TO DO list.

Around dinner time, we headed out to dinner to take in some authentic Texas BBQ at Sid's Main Street BBQ. It was highly reviewed online. When we pulled into the driveway, we were alittle apprehensive as it is located in a refurbished gas station. When we walked in to place our order, our confidence was boosted as the aroma of wood smoke filled our noses. We decided to order a sampler platter that would let us try the brisket, pulled pork, sausage and smoked turkey breast. We got sides of beans, macaroni salad and potato salad. All of us got large sweet teas to drink. (I definitely think we'll have to start making our own when we have more refrigerator space.) Skylar got a can of Dr. Pepper instead of tea and a bag of chips as his side. I think that is mostly all he ate because that boy still doesn't like much meat, but the rest of us all enjoyed our meal. We sat outside in the sunshine at picnic tables and everyone sampled and had different favorites, and we only had a tiny bit left to take home for leftovers. The two gentlemen working inside the restaurant were kind, positive, and helpful. The price for all of us to eat was pretty reasonable. We would recommend Sid's.

We left the driveway of Sid's and drove across Main Street to the grocery store to pick up milk and cereal (and though embarrassing to admit, more ice cream). On our way home, we saw a chicken crossing the road. Why you ask? It was following the rooster, of course. The funny thing is the two of them went straight up to the front of a little house and pecked at the water faucet like they did that all the time. A little further down the residential back street that we were on and we saw a couple of deer and then we saw probably 20! They were everywhere. In Brynna's words, it was almost scary.
